My Advice To (Newbie) Bloggers

bookblogwrimo banner Hello peoples! So today is day 12 of Book Bumbling’s #BookBlogWriMo – “a lax version of NaNoWriMo for  book  bloggers. [There are] prompts for each day, discussing  different topics  around books, blogging,  and  books + blogging. There’s no word count requirement, no  daily writing  requirement, very little  requirements in general. Just post the posts on the day they  should be  posted!…Answers to the  prompts  can be as short or long as you like….You can also write  them  whenever you want to….As  long as  they’re posted on the right day, it’s all good.” – and the prompt is “Be Yoda. Share your secrets.  Do or do not, there is not try.” If you want to find out more, or take part in it (with me!), click here!  Now here is my answer to today’s prompt with a bit of a repeat from one of my previous posts (there  will be more though so don’t worry!):

1) Blog regularly. Maybe not every day but at least 3 times a week is great. I blog at least three times a week with my weekly features and so far so good. (I really hope I didn’t just jinx myself).

2) Don’t reblog everything. I used to do that and soon it started getting in the way of my actual self – produced content and that’s why I do Friday Finds now.

3) Open up comments to everyone but set it to you have to approve them. There are people in the world who will spam with lots of nothing and there are people who are really nice who fall under the spam category, so monitoring the comments yourself will take that away. Besides, I love seeing what new comments I have.

4) Take part of events and challenges. Get yourself out there. I gained so many new awesome followers within a month because I took part in WordPress’ challenges (they are both educational and fun) and I have so much fun doing Guest Blogger Week and #BookBlogWriMo.

5) Use social media. I’m serious. This will open new doors for you just like taking part in events and challenges does. It gives you chance to connect with others and get you and your blog more out into the world. Plus, social media is kinda fun.

 6) Be yourself. Seriously. People notice those who do things their way and have fun doing it. Don’t totally alienate other  people’s ideas though because their way may coincide with your way and the result can be totally awesome or you can learn that their way wasn’t so great but you built off of that and made it totally awesome. Either way, just keep on swimming 🙂

7) But also try new stuff. If you don’t try, you’re not going to get anywhere. Several major things I tried that majorly worked  out for me was dong the WordPress Challenges (specifically the first Blogging 201 challenge), creating a Twitter account,  doing Guest Blogging Week and creating LBSquared. The Blogging 201 challenge gave me exposure and leveled the playing field for me, Twitter opened up my eyes to other people who I could communicate with, Guest Blogging Week was fun and gave me more exposure and LBSquared gave me a circle of like minded bloggers. So try new stuff. Things may not work out like it mostly did for me – at first Writing Wednesday fell short and don’t even get me started on the forgotten story I was doing with Vyas from Assembled Creatively  –  but there’s no possibility of hitting gold if you don’t even try.

8) Interact with other bloggers and people. I bet you that the reason you wanted to blog was to interact with other people, probably like minded people so use that. You already did half the work, you started a blog! So go talk to the other people in your “field”! That’s how LBSquared and Writer’s Guild started. You don’t have to create a blog for you guys if you don’t want to but it’s always nice to be able to talk to other people who are like you and get opinions on things you aren’t sure of or just to talk to. So go and comment on one or twenty people’s blogs that you like! Say something like your blog is cool! Where did you get your inspiration from/how was this started/why do you like doing this?”. Just something nice and welcoming!

That’s really all the advice I have I guess…What did you guys think? Do you guys agree or disagree with the advice? What is one piece of advice you  would give  other bloggers? Tell me in the comments below! Thank you! Come back tomorrow for more questions and answers! Have a great day/night and tata for now!
