To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han – Movie Review
Hello everyone!! So today is a pretty lovely day because it is release day for the movie of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han and it was SPECTACULAR! I absolutely loved it!!! I read the book years ago and adored it! It has such a special place in my heart for being the reason/inspiration behind why I write letters to get all my feelings and thoughts out. All of this to say, I was beyond excited that TATBILB is out and that I finally got to see it! Before I get into my movie review, here’s the two-second movie description, courtesy of Netflix:
“When her secret love letters somehow get mailed to each of her five crushes, Lara Jean finds her quiet high school existence upside down.”
Doesn’t that sound so WOW?! I mean, that description doesn’t do the books/movie justice, because it’s just so good so here is the book’s description, via Goodreads:
What if all the crushes you ever had found out how you felt about them… all at once?
Sixteen-year-old Lara Jean Song keeps her love letters in a hatbox her mother gave her. They aren’t love letters that anyone else wrote for her; these are ones she’s written. One for every boy she’s ever loved—five in all. When she writes, she pours out her heart and soul and says all the things she would never say in real life, because her letters are for her eyes only. Until the day her secret letters are mailed, and suddenly, Lara Jean’s love life goes from imaginary to out of control.
Even WOW-er, right?! It really is! I mean, I haven’t read the book in a couple years but, from what I remember, the movie does it justice! Also, just the movie by itself is pretty fantastic! Here’s why….
Characters (A): all of the characters are pretty amazing! The side characters aren’t the most complex I’ve ever seen but the main characters definitely are! Plus, I love how strong the familial bond was between Lara Jean and her fam, and how amazing they all were. I could definitely see her family in mine and I very much loved that
Plot (A+): OMGGGGGGGGG I will forever and always (hahaha puns) love the plot of TATBILB! It’s such a sweet take on romance that I will always love! Not to mention, the way everything starts out (not spoiling anything!) is still surprising and something I haven’t really seen in any other forms of entertainment (books or movies)
Overall, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before was so wonderful! I loved pretty much everything about it and it makes me want my own Peter….or Noah….I’ll chill with either of them tbh hahahaha I dig the romance and cherish the fact that there is an Asian American rom-com for teens, in the US market. I appreciate the diversity of it and hope it opens the doors for more Asian-American stories, more diverse stories *cough Middle Easterners cough*, and just more YA book to movie or TV show adaptions! To do that, though, pleaseeeeee watch To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before on Netflix and support it! You’ll be watching a stellar film AND showing the US film industry that diversity isn’t a trend and our stories are definitely worth telling!
Now, have you read and/or watched To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before? If so, what did you think? And who is your favorite character? Let me know in the comments below!! Mine is definitely a tie between Peter and Lara Jean! I love them both so much, I just can’t choose! Thanks, have a great day/night and tata for now!
PS. don’t forget to catch Jenny Han’s cameo! You’ll know her when you see her (hint: she’ll be dancing!)

I actually bought this book semi recently. Actually, funny story, I bought like the second or third book to the series, not realizing that it was part of a series! I still haven’t had the chance to buy the first one (i’m trying to go through all my unread books at the moment), but I’m so glad to hear that you loved the movie and the book so much. Once I finish the first book, I’ll watch the movie 🙂 Great post Angel xxx
