Warcross (Warcross, #1)Hello everyone! So, last year, I was lucky enough to win an ARC of Warcross* by Marie Lu at Book Con 2017 and I read it and loved it so much….but forgot to write a review (oops lol) Since Wildcard, book two, comes out today (whooooo!!!!), I figured I’d post my review for Warcross now, and my review for Wildcard* will be up in a couple of days! Before I get into my (non-spoilery) review for Warcross, though, here’s the synopsis, via Goodreads:

For the millions who log in every day, Warcross isn’t just a game—it’s a way of life. The obsession started ten years ago and its fan base now spans the globe, some eager to escape from reality and others hoping to make a profit. Struggling to make ends meet, teenage hacker Emika Chen works as a bounty hunter, tracking down players who bet on the game illegally. But the bounty hunting world is a competitive one, and survival has not been easy. Needing to make some quick cash, Emika takes a risk and hacks into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships—only to accidentally glitch herself into the action and become an overnight sensation.

Convinced she’s going to be arrested, Emika is shocked when instead she gets a call from the game’s creator, the elusive young billionaire Hideo Tanaka, with an irresistible offer. He needs a spy on the inside of this year’s tournament in order to uncover a security problem . . . and he wants Emika for the job. With no time to lose, Emika’s whisked off to Tokyo and thrust into a world of fame and fortune that she’s only dreamed of. But soon her investigation uncovers a sinister plot, with major consequences for the entire Warcross empire.

Intriguing, eh? I thought so too, though, I’m not too into VR/video games/sci-fi so I wasn’t sure if I’d like it but gosh did I love it so much!!!!! Let me tell you why….

  • Characters (A+): I love pretty much all the characters!?!?!? Like Emika is so cool and so interesting and I loveeeee her chemistry with everyone and then all the secondary characters are just as interesting and cool!?!? The characterizations are just so real and authentic and every glimpse into each person (both in the present and into their past) makes you both very satisfied and wanting more which I honestly have no idea how that’s possible but it happened and I seriously am in awe of it all!
  • Plot (A+): The plot of warcross is AWESOME! Like it’s soooooooo cool!! Like you saw in the synopsis, there’s a huge VR-like game called Warcross that everyone plays. Emika is a bounty hunter that hacks into the tournament and gets seen by everyone and ends up getting pulled into the game and joining a team. From there, everything gets even better and I’m not going to spoil it for you but it’s such a fun read like I never wanted to put it down and I so wish Warcross was real!! It’s just amazing and I really really really enjoyed Warcross and that end was WHOA I saw it coming tbh because of the way the plot was revealing things – aka I think you’re supposed to guess what’ll happen so it’s no biggie – but it didn’t make the end any less WOW!!!!!

Overall, EVERYONE needs to read Warcross regardless of whether you like gaming or not; this book is for everyoneeeee, it’s so amazing!!!! Anyways, have you guys read Warcross? If so, what did you think? And let me know if you’re into VR/gaming/sci-fi or not as I’m interested to hear about that too, please! Let me know in the comments below!! If you haven’t read it yet, though, you really should reconsider! It’s seriously spectacular (ayyyy alliteration) and I highly suggest you read Warcross* now if you haven’t already because you are going to LOVE it!! Thanks, have a great day/night and tata for now!
